6 Day Motorbike Tours on Camping Safaris in South Africa

Motorbike Camping to Accommodated Tours: showing tourists the highlights of the Western Cape in South Africa on the back of a BMW motorcycle. Routes include some of the best bike-riding roads in South Africa. This élite motorbike tours with a support vehicle and a trailer, which is carrying tourist luggage and all the camping equipment. Accommodated tours are available on request that can include hotel or lodge accommodation for the more Luxury Motorbike Tours.

The Tour Group will consist of a maximum of 10 bikers plus a professional guide on this motorbike touring holidays. Couriers will drive the back-up vehicle and will meet up on the campsites in the evening. The motorbike rider must be minimum 25 years old. We also advise motorbike guest on the rallies, to bring along their own protective clothing and crash helmet, the bike will be a BMW F 650 GS. If any other equipment are needed, a local motorcycle dealers in Cape Town have all needed stock.

Motorbike Tour Itinerary:

DAY 1: Cape Town to Bainskloof Pass D
A morning departure takes the group from the bustling CBD of Cape Town in Southern Africa to the French-inspired town of Franschoek, where the group visit a wine farm to taste and savour the local beverage. The motorbike camping safari group continue through the winelands over the winding pass through Bainskloof to the mountainside campsite at Tweede Tol. Enjoy dinner under the canopy of pine and oak. The first kilometre or two run through pine forests, once bikers have past the forest they reach the fynbos on the higher slopes. From the top visitors can enjoy spectacular views to Wellington. Bainskloof Pass is a natural monument along it’s full length.

DAY 2: Bainskloof Pass to Barrydale BD
Start the day early heading towards the Overberg area via the scenic town of Swellendam. Take in the past with beautiful gables, homesteads and out-of-town hospitality. The motorbike camping safari group continue along the N2 and then off the main highways heading towards Barrydale. Camp the night at Warmwaterberg, a spa resort that is pure simplicity with two open pools set against the stark backdrop of the Little Karoo.
Distance: 225 km departure: 08h00.
Lunch stop: picnic spot en-route.
Accommodation: Warmwaterberg hot springs.

DAY 3: Barrydale to Oudtshoorn BD
After breakfast the motorbike camping safari group head out towards Oudtshoorn with its balmy climate,festive locals and everything you can imagine about ostriches. More than that, this is your chance to explore the expansive and breath-taking cave system of the world-famous Cango Caves. If you’re feeling especially brave, visit an ostrich farm and ride on one of these giant birds.

DAY 4: Oudtshoorn to Wilderness BD
Descending the N2, the motorbike camping safari group head for the coast of Wilderness, a town with spectacular ocean, forests and mountain views. The guest venture out for a hike to Rus en Vrede Waterfall and enjoy the luxury of tranquility in this peaceful setting. Return to set up camp alongside the river in Wilderness national park, and spend a peaceful night under the African sky.

DAY 5: Wilderness to Bredasdorp BD
The motorbike rallies, let the group start circling back towards Cape Town as we head west out of Wilderness and towards the superb conservation area of De Hoop nature reserve, the pearl of the Overberg.  The visitors spend the day exploring the wetlands, fynbos lowland and the myriad mammal, plant and bird species.

Day 6: Cape Town B
Continue along the rocky coastline towards the Mother City. Fortune favours the brave when we head along the sinewy Chapman’s Peak to conclude our tour.

  • Pre and post tour accommodation and transfers can be arranged on request.

Departures:
Visitors please be punctual, the motorbike camping safari group departs from Cape Town, Lady Hamilton hotel.09h00 departure, The pre-departure meeting will be the evening before our tour starts at 18h00 at the Lady Hamilton hotel.

Transport:
A fully equipped Toyota Hi-Aces or minibuses or appropriate vehicles to transport your luggage and all the camping and cooking equipment. The bikes used are BMW on and off-road bikes.

Motorbike Tour Accommodation:
Accommodation on our camping safaris is 2 guests per 3-person dome tents(or travel consultants tailor-made tours with Hotel or Lodge Accommodations), fitted with mosquito nets, 5cm thick foam mattresses. Sleeping bags can be rented for the whole trip.

Spending Money:
Clients are advised to bring enough money to cover the purchase of curious and personal items. The currency in South African Rand.

Meals:
All meals are organized by the guide and are prepared by him/her with the help of the group (This is on semi - participation safaris). Meals are nutritious and filling, drawing on fresh local produce where possible. The group buy groceries along the way, so that the full motorbike safari group have a say in what type of meals are eaten. Please advise us of any special dietary requirements before the tour.

First Aid:
Guides are trained in basic first aid and the vehicle is equipped with a comprehensive medical aid kit. Preventative Malaria medication should be taken before the trip and throughout its duration, although it is advisable to consult a doctor prior to departure.

Luggage:
Maximum baggage allowance is 12 kg as an overloaded vehicle is a danger to both the clients and the guide. This does not include photographic equipment and a small day-pack. Please bring a backpack or soft barrel bag, not a suitcase. Please adhere to the allowance specified as space for luggage is limited.

Excess reduction options
We offer 3 very competitive excess reduction options for peace of mind during your holiday.

  • Standard Cover:

Standard cover is available. In the event of any damage to either the motorbike or third party vehicle / property, the hirer will be liable for the first R30 000. The excess can be paid by cash, travel-ler’s cheques or credit card (a manual imprint of the credit card will be taken and the amount will have to be authorised by the bank). This is fully refundable on return of the motorbike to the agreed location, on the agreed date, with no damage incurred to the motorcycle or third party vehicle / property. Hirer is also responsible for all tyre damage. Further details can be found on the welcome letter.

  • Super Cover:

Super cover will reduce this excess for any damage to either the motorcycle or third party vehicle / property to R15 000. Further details can be found on the welcome letter. Note: hirer is responsible for all tyre damage.

  • Exclusive Cover:

Exclusive cover will reduce the excess for any damage to either the motorbike or third party vehicle / property to Zero. The option of exclusive cover will cover all tyre damages. Further details can be found on the welcome letter.

Exclusions:
The hirer will be fully liable for any damage to the motorbike or third party vehicle / property if:

  • The terms of the rental contract are breached.
  • Damage to the motorcycle is caused by careless, wilful or reckless-driving,also see Welcome Letter
  • Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Driving on restricted roads / areas
  • Water submersion or salt-water damage is caused.
  • In case of any damage to the motorcycle or third party vehicle / property a second excess will be collected to cover the excess for any subsequent damage.

Motorbike Accidents:

  • If the rental motorcycle is involved in an accident and is not drivable, a replacement motorcycle, if available, may be collected from the closest branch.
  • If the hirer requires a replacement motorbike to be delivered, then these charges will be for the hirer’s account. None of the excess reduction options cover this eventuality.
  • The hirer is responsible for the recovery of the damaged motorcycle to the original rental depot.
  • Should there be no replacement motorbike available; no refund for lost rental days will be considered.
  • I the hirer is unable or unwilling to take a replacement motorcycle, no refunds for early termination of the contract will apply.
  • No refund of rental days lost will be considered during the period in which a replacement motorbike is being organised.
  • Should the hirer continue with a replacement motorcycle then a new rental contract and insurance conditions will apply.

We reserve the right to apply the above conditions as they deem fit.

Infringements:

  • We reserve the right to charge the hirer for any speeding or parking fines,associated administration costs and / or accidents including third party-vehicle / property damage not reported on the return of the motorcycle.

Visas:

  • The onus is on the client to organize all visas required to visit South Africa.
