Indonesia is one of the most fascinating countries of Southeast Asia. The islands of Java, Bali and Lombok have something for everyone.

For nature lovers, the highlands of Puncakand Badung offer fresh air, mountain scenery and a cool climate. Ubud in Bali is located in the centre of cascading rice paddies and steep ravines; a hike or a cycle tour through the rice paddies is a great experience offering a good oppertunity to see traditional life.

For a cultural experience, Yogayakarta, in central Java is the place to be. The temple complexes of Prambanan and Borobudur situated against the backdrop of Mt. Merapi are must-sees.

And of course there is lovely Bali, with its beautiful beaches, fishing villages and Mt. Kintamani. Still looking for something different? Try Lombok, known for its white sandy beaches, lush forested interior and hiking trails through tobacco and rice fields. Add great cuisine and good shopping to the mix and you have a perfect holiday destination.

South African Passport Holders can obtain a tourist visa free of charge upon arrival in Indonesia for stays up to 30 days.

Most of Indonesia enjoys a tropical climate with the best weather expected between April and October. November to March is the season for intermittent showers.

Peanuts are a common ingredient in Indonesian cuisine. Dishes like gado-gado, a mix of vegetables, crackers and rice are flavoured with peanut sauce. Satays, skewered barbecued meat, are usually accommpaniedby either peanut sauce or sweet soy sauce.

Bali is a great place for an active holiday. Ulawatu, at the southern tip of the island, is the site for international surfing competitions. Ubud is great for cycling or rafting down the Ayung River.
